Deborah Feingold is one of the World's leading
photographers. Having worked and photographed celebrities
including politicians, entertainers and musicians, here we
have a collection of Deborah Feingold's portraits from
both the Rock and Jazz genres. With editions of only 21
prints and subjects such as Chet Baker, Keth Richards,
Madonna & James Brown, these are sure to be highly prized
prints in the future.
The name Deborah Feingold is not one that comes readily to
mind in the exhibited world of Portrait
Photography, yet her portraits have amongst them some of the
most recognisable and iconic images of
Musicians, Actors and other great figures to have been
produced over the past three decades.
Beginning 13th September Feingold's work will be exhibited
as a vast collection for the first time as a celebration
of her 30 years in the industry, photographing famous people
all over the world.
Her black & White images spanning those years will feature
portraits of music legends such as Mick Jagger, Frank
Zappa, Paul Simon, Johnny Rotten, Bryan ferry, one of the
sexiest pictures ever of Madonna, the King of Soul
James Brown, the much missed Luther Vandross , actors like
David Hasselhoff (laden with seaweed!), and her
Jazz musicians include Chet Baker, Mal Waldron, and Sam
Rivers, to name but a few.
It was the Jazz scene that inspired Debrorah in her early
years, she soon learned from these gifted musicians
that the right way is not something that can be written down
or even understood before it is experienced. The
courage to leave oneself open to the moment is what
continues to challenge and inspire her. She believes it is
something to be felt, and has no pre-formed script. The non-
conformity of the jazz musician led her to
understand this, and to this day it underlines her work and
is her driving force.
The exhibition will be held at St Pauls Gallery, Birmingham,
which is the largest privately owned, retail gallery
outside London, and is not only home to images of some of
the worlds legends of music, but also houses the
largest collection of signed album cover art in the world.
St Pauls is a wonderful white space consisting of three
major display rooms, and is situated just off St Paul's
Square in the Hockley area of Birmingham. This beautiful
Georgian square is also home to the famous live music venue,
The Jam House, (founded by Jules Holland).
